1981 XJ650H Maxim
This bike had been stored inside and had 2,000 miles on it when I bought it from the original owner in Sep '98. It ran fine unless you opened up the throttle all the way, then it stumbled real bad. I pulled the carbs to clean them and found them perfectly clean already but I noticed that carb #3 had the pilot and main jet reversed (Hitachi carbs). I put the jets in the proper place and the bike runs like a top now. The original owner said it had always run rough and had never been in for repairs so perhaps Hitachi had a little QA problem (or the original owner did it and was embarrassed to say)? Everything is original even the tires, and though they aren't cracked, I'll be replacing them with modern tires since these are 18 years old.
